About me

Following a degree in Economics and Politics from the University of Oxford and working as an interest rate swap and currency trader at Bankers’ Trust in New York and London I founded the business which evolved into HFMC, with my wife Jacqueline. Today I have over 30 years’ experience in the financial services sector.

I am responsible for the strategic vision and operational management of the Group. In 1992 I wrote: “I want to build the highest quality financial management business in this country. Espousing the principle of service in full, having identified their objectives, our clients will experience total care, objectivity and independence”.

Because I foresaw the industry transforming towards transparency and vertical integration, I instigated the development of the Group’s asset management proposition and focus on holistic fee based planning. We now provide wealth management and employee benefit services on a “holistic” basis to the high net worth market place.

As CEO I lead a team of more than 80 staff and partners whilst also working with an immediate client support team providing independent financial advice to some 80 high and ultra high net worth UK and Offshore families.

Outside of business I love to take out my historic racing car and my Porsche, and enjoy skiing, hiking and cycling with my wife and 3 adult children. I have 3 Finnish Lapphund dogs including a 6 month old puppy. I help manage my late father John Hoyland’s extensive artistic legacy. Jackie and I love young people and engage in a range of philanthropic and support activities related to them.

About me

I work in close partnership with my clients. Together we build a financial roadmap that expresses your financial goals in terms of the things that really matter to you, your most important goals and your deepest held values. It's a powerful process that gives you the space to think about how your life goals translate into financial priorities.

I think the most important thing is to listen. Most people are too busy trying to get their own message across and don't listen to what the client is saying. I tailor the level of detail that I provide to the preferences of each client. I won't bother them with the detail unless they want to know it. What I really enjoy is focusing on people's goals - the bigger picture. Rather than drowning clients in data and reports, I talk to them about how close they are to achieving their objectives, whether that is stopping work, buying a holiday home or helping their children with a start in life.

It's also important to help clients manage their often complicated financial worlds with multiple professional advisors. My team and I will work with these advisors - lawyers, accountants, investment managers - to help our clients simplify the network of their financial relationships. By asking the right questions and getting people to work together, we can free the client to concentrate on the things that really matter to them.

I am a Chartered Financial Planner and Fellow of the Personal Finance Society. Beyond work, I am a dad to university age daughters and a husband to my artist wife. I enjoy classic car road trips.

About me

I specialise in arranging mortgages and protection for my clients. I can help my clients deal with any mortgage-related challenge, from first time time buying, moving home or remortgaging, through to buying to let, equity release roll up mortgages, second charges, bridging finance and commercial mortgages.

I have over 40 years’ experience in placing finance, more than 15 of them at HFM Columbus, so whatever problem a client might have I have generally come across it before and know where to go to solve it.

I pride myself on not following the pack and on looking for innovative solutions to the problem if there is one. I think it's important to consider a problem from every angle, and I use my knowledge and experience to go the extra mile for clients.

My team and I offer a very personal service. We really take the time to get to know our clients and understand their needs. That's why many of my clients return to me time and again.

I generally deal in the high net worth market and have contacts with most of the main stream lenders as well private banks. However my team will not turn down any mortgage enquiry, no matter how small, and we pride ourselves on offering the same level of service to all our clients.

Beyond work, I enjoy cooking, music, theatre and spending time with my granddaughter. I am also an Ambassador for the charity, Queen Elizabeth’s Foundation for Disabled People.

About me

I am lucky enough to have a small number of incredible clients who I enjoy helping particularly at important junctions in their lives. They are interesting and successful people who have helped me gain a broad understanding of the challenges they face and the ways they meet those challenges.

Primarily my clients are professional investors and their families, interesting people that I like to spend time with. It's a vast range from investment bankers and entrepreneurs to partners at the Big Four.

My clients value the fact that I look after their peers, understand their world and care about their trust. As far as I am able, I invest my own money alongside that of my clients, and I take pride in fighting hard on their behalves for the best solutions possible.

I’m often called when someone is facing a major life decision or upheaval such as leaving their job, sending a child to university or moving house. Sitting with a client trying to help them agree a package for a job or deciding how best to fund their child's education has given me an insight that is highly personal to each individual.

Being a sounding board and a sense check to help clients make truly life changing decisions is both a privilege and huge responsibility. I greatly value the trust that my clients place in me, and I aim to repay that by offering truly independent advice that is innovative and absolutely focused on each client's personal objectives.

About me

I provide my clients with a holistic service which combines planning, wealth management, tax mitigation and the coordination of the family or individual’s professional advisers. My team and I specialise in advising UK nationals living abroad as well as non-domiciled individuals living here in the UK. This includes clients who have US tax filing obligations. Typically my clients have investable, liquid wealth of £1 million+.

The breadth of the service and its greater emphasis on quality than on price distinguishes us from our competitors. In each case, the relationship I have with the client is focused on protecting the family’s wealth, reducing complexity and freeing up their time so they can concentrate on what really matters to them.

We offer a very “high touch” service. My clients have very high expectations and so we concentrate on making sure all aspects of the service we provide are as good as they can possibly be. No one aspect is more important than any other.

My clients appreciate my ability to develop, communicate, implement and maintain strategies which reflect their true objectives. I'm also able to analyse and communicate complex issues clearly and concisely, particularly important as my clients are generally extremely busy people.

I own a share of several businesses which operate under the HFM Columbus brand and I am Executive Director of HFM Columbus Group. As such I spend about half my time managing the businesses and the other half advising a small number of domestic and international private clients.

About me

Through a very personal and tailored approach, I help my clients fulfill their financial aspirations in regard to their own needs and the needs of their family. I have client relationships going back over 20 years. Building these relationships on trust and integrity makes my work extremely rewarding and fulfilling.

I am supported by a very efficient and highly trained team who provide administrative and technical support. This support enables me to concentrate on providing a very personal and face to face service to my clients.

I work with private clients and their families, providing investment advice in relation to their investment, pension and family trust portfolios. I also advise on tax mitigation and estate planning.

I meet with clients regularly to review progress. My clients benefit from financial plans that are tailored entirely to their particular requirements. Assisted by our in-house investment team, I provide investment management for clients’ general investment portfolios, family trusts and pension funds in both onshore and offshore jurisdictions.

Tax efficiency and tax planning are an integral part of our service. In addition, using sophisticated financial modeling software, I am able to provide “lifetime cash flow analysis” for my clients helping them plan for the future with confidence.

About me

I've been working now as an independent financial adviser for more than thirty years, after twelve years with a leading life assurance company. One of the most rewarding aspects of my career has been the number of clients with whom I have been working continuously throughout this time.

I recognise that life is a financial balancing act for us all and my role is to help get the balance right for my clients, whatever stage in life they may be at. Indeed, I have observed over the years how clients' priorities tend to change as their circumstances change, with their appetite for risk normally reducing as they mature. It's my job to ensure that those changing priorities and attitudes are accurately reflected in the financial plans I develop for my clients.

Financial services, especially pensions, can be seen as shrouded in mystique and this, combined with complexity and jargon, can lead to confusion for many people.

For this reason I try to keep things as simple as possible for my clients, making sure they have all the information they need but not bothering them with unnecessary detail, which hopefully leads to greater understanding and greater confidence.

A high percentage of my clients are now either approaching or in retirement. I like to think of myself as “walking my clients into retirement”, emphasising the need to give time to making the right decisions and not rushing into things.

About me

I have been a private client adviser for more than a decade, and have been with HFM Columbus since 2009. I work with private clients and owners of small and medium- sized enterprises, helping them to reach their lifestyle and financial goals using carefully considered planning.

I tend to work with clients with complex financial planning needs and the level of income or investable assets that require a particular expertise. I typically work with professionals, such as for example solicitors, both current and retired. Clients at all stages of life can gain from working with me.

Achieving structural and tax efficiency is always a key consideration as are the individual circumstances and needs of every client I advise. I enjoy helping people plan for their immediate and future lifestyle goals, and building close relationships with my clients so I remain part of that ongoing journey is very important to me.

I don’t want to be a solely a transactional adviser - it's about the bigger picture of helping clients achieve their goals rather than how many products I can name in a Risk meeting.

I strongly believe that focusing on clients' needs is more important than focusing on products. Investment or savings products are not particularly interesting in themselves, but what they can allow an individual or a family to do with their lives is very interesting and far more rewarding, so that is my main concern.

About me

I joined HFM Columbus in 2013, having previously worked in wealth management and private banking roles. For the last 18 years I have specialised in advising people who are non-domiciled living either in the UK or overseas; people from the UK who live abroad; and US citizens (who need specific knowledge and expertise).

I'm genuinely interested in people, their lives and what brings them to me to seek advice. I like learning about what is important to them and together we build a framework to manage their wealth over their lifetime and, if appropriate, implement a plan to ensure that the next generation can benefit from it.

Many of my clients have followed me to HFM Columbus and I value their loyalty and the trust they place in my advice. My new clients tend to be referred to me from existing clients or by professional connections, such as international tax lawyers with whom I work closely on often complex scenarios to achieve tax efficient, long term solutions which can travel seamlessly with the clients as they move across the globe.

I always have my clients' interests at heart and do my absolute best for them. I care that the advice that I provide means something significant to them, and that my clients trust the knowledge and experience I have in this extremely interesting and often complex area of financial planning.

About me

As a financial planner for over thirty years, I believe my role is to inspire people to be all they are capable of being by helping them to build the necessary financial foundations.

I am committed to going the extra mile for my clients, getting to know them personally and taking the time to find out what really matters to them. That's why many of my clients have been with me for over twenty years and recommend me to others. My clients benefit from high quality, bespoke financial solutions built on a core of integrity, commitment and service.

My team and I work with clients to help them develop strategic financial plans that enable them to achieve their life goals and realise their dreams. Each solution we offer is tailor-made to the client’s personal and financial objectives. We often work with multiple generations of the same family, meaning that our relationship is both broad and deep but always focused on the family as a whole.

My clients benefit from a comprehensive, personalised wealth management service, completely tailored to their particular requirements. This can include anything from investment advice, estate and retirement planning to risk management and lifetime cash flow modeling.

Some clients come to me for help with planning a particular aspect of their future expenditure such as education funding, others want someone to help them build a strategic overview of all aspects of their financial lives. That’s why our financial plans are individually tailored to meet the needs of each person.

About me

I am a Chartered Financial Planner and a Fellow of the Personal Finance Society and have been working at HFMC since 2015.

I believe that it is essential to not only have an understanding of each client's current circumstances, but also to fully comprehend what is that they are looking to achieve in the future so that I am able to develop a bespoke strategy that is beneficial now, throughout their lifetime and in some cases through to future generations as well.

The biggest reward for me comes from relieving my clients and their families of the stresses of managing their personal finances, allowing them to focus on other more rewarding aspects of their lives.

Typically I work with professionals and their families in a holistic manner, building long term relationships with my clients and working closely with them as they transition through the various stages of their lives.

Outside of work my interests include cars, driving and motor racing; spending time with my friends and family; going to the cinema and cooking.

About me

I have worked at HFMC since 2007 and moved into the role of a Private Client Adviser in 2012. I love meeting people and taking the time to understand what is most important to them and to their families.

Understanding this helps me to develop a strategic plan for them, which removes their anxieties, allowing them to spend more time enjoying their lives. Their plans are reviewed year on year to reflect any changes in their lives, or a shift in their personal goals, ensuring they remain on track to achieve everything they desire.

Helping to simplify people’s finances and being the person that my clients turn to for strategic advice is one of the most rewarding aspects of my job. This provides me with personal recognition for the help and advice I provide.

Beyond work I love to travel the world with my wife, exploring different cultures and sceneries. I also have a passion for running. Marathons have been my biggest challenge to date and I have taken part in races throughout the UK and many countries around the world.

About me

I provide a long-term, holistic financial planning service to my clients. This focuses on them and their objectives for the rest of their lives. As a consequence, my service is not for those seeking a product-orientated or ‘transactional’ relationship.

I enjoy taking the time to get to know someone, to really understand them, their aims and objectives before we start talking about what solutions might be appropriate. It’s because of this approach that my clients trust me and have stayed with me for many years.

It’s very much a collaborative effort. I work together in partnership with my clients and the relationship works best when the client is prepared to really engage with the financial planning process together with me.

Using sophisticated lifetime cash flow modeling software, I provide a tailored financial planning service to individuals. This includes wealth creation, at or in retirement planning, estate preservation and catering for unexpected events, by way of appropriate contingency planning.

Beyond work, I enjoy walking my dog, exploring West Sussex and spending time with my children and grandson.

About me

I have nearly twenty years' financial services experience, primarily specialising in the mortgage and protection market. I advise on all areas of mortgage and specialist lending from standard residential mortgages, lifetime mortgages, buy to let and portfolio lending through to commercial mortgages and bridging finance.

A mortgage is the biggest financial commitment most clients will undertake so a thorough understanding of their needs is critical. Every client matters and I always try to go the extra mile regardless of the size of the case. I’m happy to arrange early or late appointments to meet the needs of each client and I recognise that providing a thorough service is key to building trust and a long lasting relationship.

I don't take a transactional approach. Instead, I aim to provide expert advice over the long term with many clients returning to see me when they need their next mortgage or rate review, as well as recommending me to their colleagues, family and friends.

I’m able to relate to clients of all ages and I advise at all levels of wealth, with everyone receiving the same high level of respect regardless of their circumstances. I Risk tailor my approach to meet the knowledge and experience of the particular person I’m helping. This means that clients really understand the solutions that I am recommending.

Beyond work, I value spending time with my family, and I am a lifelong supporter and season ticket holder of Brighton and Hove Albion FC.

About me

I have spent more than 25 years in the private wealth arena and have been at HFMC since 2013.  My small, high-calibre team and I work both with families with generational wealth as well as with individual clients who are looking for bespoke financial plans.

My team and I pride ourselves on being friendly and approachable.  We offer strategies to help our clients achieve their financial goals, and present these to them in straightforward terms. Our aim is to simplify a sometimes complex set of financial relationships, often working with fellow professional advisers; lawyers, accountants, discretionary fund managers and private bankers.

Our offering can be as hands on or as ‘light touch’ as is required – we tailor your financial plan to help you to achieve your financial goals.

Most of my clients are long-standing, and recommend both me and the broader HFMC offering to others.

Providing clients with the best financial solutions for their individual circumstances leads to referrals, which is one of the most motivational aspects of our work and proves that we’re definitely doing something right.

Beyond work, I enjoy travel with my family, walking my dog, keeping chickens and collecting Aboriginal art.

About me

I'm a Fellow of the Personal Finance Society and a Chartered Financial Planner through the Chartered Insurance Institute.  I have over twenty year's experience in financial services, the last three of which I've spent at HFMC.  My typical clients are looking to build towards their retirement or, if already in retirement, looking to preserve their lifestyle and make their money work hard for them. Thus I specialise in investment planning, pre and post-retirement planning, inheritance tax planning and long term care.

The emphasis on long term support for clients means I take on all aspects of financial planning, often leading to building relationships with all members of the same family.  My goal is to be regarded as a trusted adviser for people and their families.

I take a careful, considered view towards advising clients on their planning, with a strong analytical approach. I am mindful of the trust clients put in me and it is imperative to me that this trust is justified and maintained for the long term.

I think my clients appreciate my honesty and my candid approach, along with my attention to detail and the fact that I provide the best service I can, as well as my integrity and focus on looking after my clients over many years.

Beyond work I'm a retired cricketer, having shifted my focus to the easier pastures of the golf course. I also have a keen interest in history and archaeology.

About me

I have worked at HFM Columbus since December 2006. Prior to that I worked as a fund manager at one of the City’s largest asset management companies for over 20 years, managing predominantly pooled pension funds and segregated pension mandates.

I enjoy the challenge of delivering a competent and professional investment service to the firm’s clients to enable them to meet their long term financial objectives. I want our investment proposition and client experience to be the equal or better than that of the big wealth management firms.

The investment team is close knit, hardworking and highly motivated and it is a pleasure to work alongside my colleagues on a daily basis.

Our long term performance record has been strong in terms of both the returns delivered to clients and relative to that of our peers in the wealth management industry. About me

I have been working in financial planning since 2000 and at HFM Columbus since 2014. I am a Chartered Financial Planner and a Fellow of the Personal Finance Society and was a nominated finalist for the annual PFS industry ‘Paraplanner of the year’ award in 2017.

Working alongside Marcus Carlton, I share his passion for helping people achieve those things most important to them. I love to get to know our clients on a deeper level, understand their values and really know what motivates and drives them.

Taking the time to discuss their goals, things which may require time and money to achieve, helps us to develop a lifetime strategic plan for them to follow. This plan is then regularly reviewed by us to ensure that any changes or preferences to a client's life are accommodated. This keeps them and their goals on track and beneficially provides peace of mind.

Giving a client time and space to concentrate on their lives, their family or their business, and allowing them the opportunity to have complete clarity and total confidence that their financial world is being looked after is the most rewarding part of my role.

About me

Many of my clients have been with me for between ten and twenty years. I take a lot of pride, pleasure and satisfaction in working with them over the long term.

I bring to the table a good pair of ears and strong problem-solving abilities. I work with lots of clients who run their own businesses. My role is to help them set up a road map for their finances, both inside and outside the business, and to help them understand how decisions they make within their business might affect their personal financial situation, and vice versa.

I specialise in advising company owners, both on their business and personal finances. In particular, I work with people who need help planning an effective exit strategy.

My aim is to help these clients build solid lifetime financial plans, taking into account both their personal financial goals and objectives as well as their business needs. This might include: -

  • Protecting the business in the event of the death or illness of a Director
  • Helping plan for retirement in as tax-efficient a way as possible
  • Family protection and estate planning
  • Investment advice
  • Ensuring compliance with new legislation such as auto-enrollment

About me

I've been working with HFMC for over nine years and have known many of the clients I advise for that time or longer. It’s been a great journey and very rewarding helping to clarify what matters to each client most and guiding them through the financial maze.

I believe a good adviser is someone who first and foremost is able to listen to the client's needs and understand them. It is also important to be able to apply the correct knowhow in a personalised way and remain focused on the client's best interests and outcomes.

The right advice at the right time has the power to be of great value. My role is to be positioned alongside the client and filter out the financial noise, keep to what’s relevant and help determine the most suitable financial plan for them and their family.

About me

I see my role as helping busy people manage their financial affairs and realise their goals. I provide trusted financial advice and planning for my clients, whatever their stage of life.

Many of my clients have been with me for almost thirty years, sometimes from the start to the peak of their business success and through into retirement, and because of this I have been able to provide an unrivaled continuity of advice, helping them build their wealth over the course of our relationship.

My role is to provide high quality financial planning advice, help clients get clarity over their own financial affairs, set goals, agree, and stick to, where possible, a financial strategy. My aim is also to translate the often complex jargon of the financial world into understandable solutions and arrive at sound advice that is appropriate for the particular requirements of each client.

The long standing nature of my client relationships means that I have been able to provide a constant overview of their financial affairs and act as a trusted adviser and planner to them at all stages of their lives.

Assisted by our in-house investment team, I provide investment management for clients’ general investment portfolios, family trusts and pension funds in both onshore and offshore jurisdictions.

About me

I have worked at HFM Columbus for over ten years now and have almost twenty years experience in private client work. We’ve built an excellent team spirit in the investment team over the years, recognising that the harder and closer we work for each other, the greater the ultimate benefit received by our clients.

We are focused on delivering successful investment outcomes for HMFC clients that help drive the attainment of each individual’s financial goals and objectives. We don’t spend our time marketing ourselves to other firms in the hope of getting more money under management, preferring to spend our time where it matters most.

One of the most rewarding aspects of my job is in the challenge of taking world and market events and translating those in to a ‘world view’ that can be filtered in to a sensible investment portfolio for that point in time.

We won’t get everything right, but our track record suggests we get more right than wrong which tips the scales in our favour. Our common sense approach and easy-to- understand commentary is a feature of what we do.

We are a long established team with a strong reputation and solid track record over what has been, at times, a traumatic market to follow. I wear the success of surviving the bad times in markets with more pride than the euphoria of more ebullient times. I think our clients recognise us to be a safe pair of hands in managing their wealth.
